As countries across the world look to decriminalise cannabis, Jim Connolly asks whether it’s time to change the law on the UK’s most popular illegal drug. Cannabis clubs claim record membership across the country, so Jim visits those who insist the drug causes less trouble than alcohol. He also travels to find out what other nations are trying – meeting the man behind the decriminalised drug system in Portugal, and follows a young cannabis user through the “dissuasion” court process.
Traditionally a conservative society, South Korea’s National Assembly approved the Amendment to the Narcotics Control Act on the 23rd November 2018. This does not mean medical marijuana is now legal in South Korea but does mean the government is seriously looking at a way forward for its citizens to gain access to safe medical marijuana.
A Farm Bill passed by Congress last year included an amendment granting states and universities the right to research hemp. Several states have since started research projects, but Kentucky is at the forefront, experimenting with creating a new industry around this plant. NewsHour’s Christopher Booker reports.
