E-cigarettes are a fairly new craze that has taken the world by storm. For those who are new to the scene entirely it can be quite difficult to understand how you should go about using them. They’re not like the traditional tobacco based products, these devices can get quite pricey so you want to be sure that you’re using it correctly.
To help newcomers and people making the transition from tobacco we have put together an easy to follow beginner’s guide on how to use an e-cigarette.
If you are new to the vaping scene you will notice that the technique in which you use your device differs slightly from what you may be used to. Instead of burning tobacco to create smoke, these devices heat up a liquid to create a vapour (hence the name vape) that is inhaled by the user. Below are the things that you should be doing when you are using your e-cigarette.
Before you hit the town with your e-cig you should make sure that the battery is fully charged. The batteries in these devices are lithium based which means that they can be recharged and last hundreds of hours.
You should also ensure that the device is set up correctly. This includes that the e-liquid cartridge is screwed into correctly so that there are no leaks or spills. You should also monitor the levels of your e-liquid and make sure to swap out the cartridges when it starts getting too low.
Warm up the device
Before you start puffing away on your e-cigarette you should warm up the device by performing some primer puffs. This little trick is used to heat up the coil so that it will be performing at maximum efficiency. The puffs you take should short and quick as to not accidentally get a mouthful of any e-juices.
After your e-cigarette has been appropriately warmed up you should inhale the vapour slowly. Contrary to tobacco based products, you shouldn’t be taking short and sharp puffs. E-cigarettes need time to turn the liquid into a vapour which means that if you were to take sharp inhales you could end up with a mouth full of e-juice.
Hold and exhale
Most people don’t realise that it takes longer to feel the nicotine hit from a vape pen compared to normal smoking methods. Because of this you need to hold the vapour for approximately 3 to 5 seconds. This amount of time should be plenty to allow the nicotine to be to be absorbed through your mucous membranes.
After holding the vapour in your lungs for the intended time you should exhale slowly from your mouth and/or nose.
While there are some important things that you should be doing with your vape pen, there are also some things that you shouldn’t be doing. Using your device in an improper manner can put you off it altogether which would be a real shame especially since you haven’t experienced it properly and you would’ve invested all this money into it as well. Knowing what not to do is sometimes just as important as knowing what to do.
You should avoid chain-vaping as this can irritate your throat, burn out your taste buds and leave you with a sore throat. After you have had approximately 6 to 7 drags from your device, you should let it rest and cool down so it doesn’t overheat.
Sharp and quick inhales
As we stated before, you shouldn’t be taking sharp and quick inhalations of your device as the liquid wouldn’t have had enough time to turn into a vapour.
