Dabs are made from a growing number of different ingredients these days, including butane hash oil (BHO), honey oil, budder, shatter, and wax. The common trait between all dabs, though, is that they provide an ultra-concentrated dose of THC to the user, providing strong psychedelic effects without the hassle or mess of smoking a cannabis bud, and this can deliver a rapid and very potent kick in next to no time. However, some people are concerned about how long these dabs will remain in their system for – which is why today, we’ve come up with this short guide to help you understand how long dabs last and how you can choose the best timing for your dab consumption.
How Long Do Dabs Last in my Body?
If you’ve recently taken dabs, then the compounds contained within them can linger in your body for a potentially long period of time. Most commonly, THC will only linger in your body’s fat stores for up to four weeks, after which point the THC will be depleted from this. However, THC can still be traceable in your saliva, hair, and urine for varying periods of time, and this is important to consider if you are expecting a drug test at some point.
The saliva test is the least long term of all three testing options. Indeed, THC will only remain in your saliva for up to 12 hours, but it may be less for some people. What’s more, how regularly you use dabs will not have an effect on a saliva test’s results.
However, hair and urine tests are a little trickier. Indeed, dabs can last in your system for anywhere up to 90 days with both tests, with hair tests having the longest lifespan. If you’re a one time user of dabs (or any other THC product) then you can expect both tests to show a clear after seven days. However, things get a little more complicated if you use cannabis products on a semi-regular or regular basis. Drug urine tests can take up to thirty days for a heavy cannabis user to show clear, and potentially up to 90 days if you’re a heavy smoker. Meanwhile, the hair test will take anywhere between 7 and 90 days for repeated users, regardless of how often you take dabs or cannabis.
As such, it’s important to be aware of the potential risks of a drug test showing positive for a long period of time while doing dabs. Indeed, it’s perfectly legal for your employer and the like to request you to complete a drug test, even if taking dabs and cannabis is legal in your state, and some employers may have consequences for employees who are proven through drug tests to be taking cannabis and cannabis products such as dabs.
Top Tips to Get Dabs Out of your System Quickly
If you know that you’ve taken dabs recently or within the aforementioned times, then you may want to get dabs out of your system quickly. Luckily, there are a few ways you can try and flush dabs from your system, and these will increase in their efficacy based on the amount of time that’s passed since you used the dabs.
First, you’ll want to try and flush as much of the dabs from your systems as possible by drinking plenty of water. Drinking 64 ounces of water or more daily, two days prior to your drug test can be highly effective at flushing dabs from your body, especially when drunk alongside cranberry juice which is known to be a natural diuretic. Generally speaking, a couple of glasses a day for three days should do the trick. By upping your consumption of fluids, though, you should always keep a close eye on your electrolyte levels to prevent any side effects, and always increase fluid consumption gradually to prevent a sudden change.
Another tip is to get plenty of exercise. Exercise can help speed up your metabolism and boost fat burning, which in turn can help your body to break down stored THC in its fat reserves.
Finally, creatine supplements (usually used by bodybuilders) can also help accelerate the flushing process when taken alongside the aforementioned tips. 100mg per day (increased gradually) for three days before the test may prove beneficial in helping to reduce THC levels in your drug test.
These are just a few tips you could consider for removing dabs from your system. However, they should only be used as a backup option, and the better plan (if you know about the drugs test) would be to abstain from taking dabs for as long as possible while following a healthy diet and exercise routine.
